Why Performance-based Hiring Builds a Lean Team, as told by Lou Adler

Lou Adler joins Hiring On All Cylinders to share a sneak peek of his webinar later this week. Best known for his Performance-based Hiring methodology, Lou emphasizes the importance of recruiters seeking out growth in candidates' career trajectories, not just the right skills or experiences. This helps talent teams identify the best performers driven by challenges, the opportunity to evolve their skill sets and develop with their org in the long run. In this episode, Lou breaks down the performance-based hiring model, and why orgs too often focus on the wrong metrics to track good fit candidates.

Here’s What We Learned from SourceCon Anaheim 2016

SourceCon is one of talent acquisition’s biggest events, connecting influencers and practitioners to share their savvy on the state of hiring.

Over 700 attendees and 32 speakers from companies including Indeed, GitHub, and Lockheed Martin gathered in Anaheim last week for the conference. While the “two days of sourcing magic” have wrapped up since, we round up highlights from a handful of lucky attendees sharing their favorite conversations.

Entelo’s Guide to Rocking SourceCon Like a Pro

In just a few short weeks, SourceCon Fall 2016 kicks off in beautiful Anaheim, California. SourceCon is the year’s single biggest event dedicated to sourcing and, if you haven’t registered yet, you still can.

Regardless of the opportunity to learn and mingle with some of the best people in talent acquisition, there are few better places than Anaheim to spend time in late September. A city known for its many attractions, Anaheim is blessed with near perfect weather, numerous award-winning restaurants and enough activities to keep you entertained.

Still, with so much possibility, it can be a challenge to figure out what’s up your alley - whether you’re looking for spots nearby to zone in and catch up on emails, to meet with a colleague in town, or to make the most of your free time. We’ll give you some tips to make sure you get the most out of your time in Anaheim.

How to Scale Diversity Hiring at Your Organization

As we’ve seen in recent years, even the most well-meaning or well-funded attempts to improve diversity numbers can come up against a brick wall and wind up with little to show for it. Many companies struggle to turn intent into results, and many of the world’s foremost organizations have acknowledged that fact. Yet many others still insist that they are too busy for diversity initiatives.

During his appearance on Hiring On All Cylinders last month, Pandora’s Marvin Stickel chatted about his successes and challenges implementing a sourcing diversity program at Google. After experiencing considerable success on his team, they took a step back to look at Google’s overall numbers and realized they had not actually made a dent, percentage wise. As Stickel explains, it was a deflating moment. Despite their success at a team level, translating that success to a company-wide initiative remained elusive.

Diversity is a competitive advantage. Yet many of the companies that genuinely tried to build a diverse company miss their goal. It all begs the question, can hiring candidates with diverse backgrounds be achieved at scale? And if so, how can more organizations achieve true diversity?

The answer, of course, is yes. Here's how.

Sourcing Productivity, Multitasking and the Art of Pushback with Shally Steckerl

President of The Sourcing Institute, Shally Steckerl, hops on the line with the Hiring On All Cylinders team to give a preview of some of the tips, tricks and intel he’ll be sharing in his webinar later this week. After almost 10 years unearthing talent for the likes of Pandora and Google, Marvin Stickel has seen it all in tech sourcing – from the evolution of the candidate vetting process, to the cultural shift in diversity hiring in Silicon Valley.

Pandora's principal sourcer joins this week's Hiring On All Cylinders to chat about his top challenges at the organization, lessons learned sourcing engineers at Google, and why he sometimes worries recruiting is too focused on ticking boxes.

Why Recruiters Should Get Familiar with What Their Technologies Can and Can’t Provide

One of the biggest challenges recruiters face is learning how to use different networks and platforms effectively to find people. Working with a handful of search tools and browsing through dozens of sites to source candidates isn’t productive unless you know how to use and combine these resources to their full advantage.

We spoke with Irina Shamaeva, founder of the People Sourcing Certification Program, to share her thoughts on what recruiting technologies provide and how recruiters can take advantage of tools to efficiently vet qualified candidates.

How You Might Be Unwittingly Sabotaging Your Hiring

If you’ve ever planned a wedding, you know every single detail can consume your attention, no matter how small it may be in the grand scheme of things. That’s how hiring can feel. At every step of the process, there is the possibility of errors or mistakes that could prevent people from joining your organization. A typo here, a poorly worded message there. Who knows why candidates chose to drop out of the process or ignore your message? The truth is, most of the time you just won’t know, which is why sourcing is so important.

The Timeless Traits Recruiters Need to Win the War for Talent

We chatted with Shally Steckerl of The Sourcing Institute to share his hiring philosophies from over 20 years of being in the industry. Here’s what he had to say about what sets apart today’s recruiters, why it’s imperative to pick up new skill sets now more than ever, and what’s to come for the future of recruiting.

How To Write Killer Recruiting Emails in 5 Steps

Effective writing is an underrated aspect of recruiting. We constantly discuss the ins and outs of finding talent, but the outcomes of your outreach will depend in large part on your ability to communicate with candidates. All the strategic sourcing in the world won’t get candidates to respond to badly written, poorly conceived emails.

Why Sourcing Parties Are Your New Best Way to Find Talent

No matter the job, finding good candidates is a bear. Everyone from a restaurant manager to a startup CEO to a hiring manager at a Fortune 500 company will tell you so. The modern economy demands highly specific, hard to find skillsets that all too few (readily hireable) people possess. It’s up to recruiters to bridge the gap.

The Four Best Resources for Brushing Up On Boolean

Boolean logic is one of the savvy recruiter’s most basic, yet powerful tools. That’s because Boolean search is applicable to every platform you use to source talent, whether it’s Google, Twitter, or Facebook. Using Boolean search well not only helps you find more top talent, but it also hones in on specific candidates that fit your location or skillset criteria.

Why You Need to Make Recruiting and Hiring a Team Sport

Hiring stellar talent takes planning, constant communication, and solid execution. You can’t just send recruiters into the fray with a job req and expect good things to happen. No individual can know it all. That’s why the best hiring occurs when everyone is on the same page and working together. Here’s how to jumpstart your hiring with a healthy dose of teamwork.
