The Future of Recruiting is AI and other thoughts from HR Tech

If there's one thing I've learned from my life in recruiting, it's that the technology we use changes constantly but the fundamentals often remain the same. Yes, we've gone from Rolodexes and phone calls to job boards and emails to texting and even social media recruiting. But the skills that we use to talk with and engage candidates have not changed all that much. Still, change is afoot.

Last Week in Talent - July 5, 2017

Happy belated birthday, America! Despite the shortened week we're coming in hot with another certified fresh edition of Last Week in Talent coming in hot and fresh to you inbox.

This week we're digging deep into the data behind VC funding inequality, how tech companies are getting kids across American into coding, the different ways women and men get treated when they keep their salary history secret, whether AI and gaming can deliver an effective solution to hiring diversity, how companies are developing the modern workforce, an in-depth interview with the woman trying to reinvent Uber's culture, and how the skills shortage is costing the British economy billions every year.

Oh yeah, and be sure to check out Slack's podcast episode about the world's first black chess grandmaster. It's a doozy. Good luck and happy hunting.

Last Week in Talent - June 26, 2017

The wheel of the talent acquisition machine never stops turning and last week was no exception, with Yello, Textio, and Sense all grabbing new rounds of funding, Todoist releasing a Slack-competitor called Twist, and Google for Jobs launching its quest to become the one job board to rule them all. In other news, it turns out women-founded companies have more women employees, the so-called skills gap might be a lot of hot air, and Unilever is tossing resumes in favor of algorithms.

Last Week in Talent - June 20, 2017

Hello friends!

This is Last Week in Talent, where yours truly runs down all the most interesting, important and intriguing talent and recruiting-related information from the last week in recruiting and hiring.

In case you missed it, Entelo (yes, us!) announced our Series C round last week (ps, we're hiring), Amazon announced they are buying Whole Foods (for the estimated equivalent of 3.7 billion bottles of Kumbucha), Careerbuilder just got bought, Wordpress is closing their super nice SF (office because no one actually uses it), McDonalds is using Snapchat to recruit, Facebook is teaching machines to negotiate with humans, Slack is raising a $500M megaround and Culture Amp announced that they had raised a $20M Series C.

Entelo Raises $20 Million Series C Funding Round

We are proud to announce today that Entelo has closed its Series C financing (press release below and link to TechCrunch article here). This new funding will help move us further toward our vision of building the best technology to empower the modern recruiter. We'll be using the capital to deepen our investment in data science, machine learning, and AI and to build even better products that help to give companies a competitive advantage when it comes to finding talent. Entelo is also opening up a New York office as part of its expansion.

We couldn't be more thrilled about the future and what lies ahead for Entelo and for our industry. We will have more exciting announcements in the coming months and look forward to talking with you about our plans soon. And we're hiring

Last Week in Talent: May 22, 2017

Good morning and Happy Monday. This is Last Week in Talent.

The biggest news in talent last week is that Google is launching the job search engine to rule them all powered by their robust machine learning and AI algorithms. With partnerships in place with the biggest job boards, it looks like Google for Jobs will complement existing solutions, for now.

But Google is not alone with it’s focus on AI and machine learning, and this deep dive by Fortune Magazine is an excellent primer on how many companies are leveraging smart computing to change the way hiring operates.
