3 Companies Getting Employer Brand Right

Much attention is paid to the topic of company brand, and deservedly so. But even if everyone knows who Screen_Shot_2014-06-24_at_12.18.59_PMCoca-Cola are, and what they sell, most people have no idea what it's like to work there. Enter Employer Brand. Who your company is on billboards is much, much different than who it is at happy hours, and if you're going to attract inbound applications and bring interested candidates home, you need an exciting, unique culture paired with an exceptional candidate experience.

Particularly in this social era, it's easier than ever for candidates and employees to share details about interviewing processes or workplace culture. As a result, no longer can employers hide a poor candidate experience behind a brand name. As a recruiter, every message you send out, each email you don't respond to, and all the candidates you don't adequately inform could potentially be shared with massive networks, damaging not just your hiring funnel, but also your company's image. Thankfully, companies can now chime in via social. Be sure to make friends with whoever's running social at your organization, so you can be well apprised of the chatter surrounding your organization.

Keeping these things in mind, here are some examples of some companies who are getting their employer brand right.

Facebook Tears Up Glassdoor

A great barometer of culture, employee satisfaction, and candidate experience is Glassdoor.com. On Glassdoor, the social media behemoth Facebook passes all three areas with flying colors. With over 600 detailed reviews average 4.5 stars explaining both pros and (considerably few) cons of working at Facebook, it's easy to get an idea of what it would be like to head to Facebook campus every day. Make sure to monitor your company's Glassdoor presence, as it's an invaluable source of feedback.

A Tip of the Red Hat

Another great place to get a peek into employee life is LinkedIn's Career pages. Here, you can display your own media, open positions, and much more. Red Hat Media' Career Page includes employee testimonials, recent content they've shared, and plenty of links to learn more. Red Hat's page enjoyed success to the degree where LinkedIn used them as a case study to set the bar for other organizations.

A Total Shoe-In

These days, it's impossible to talk about company culture without mentioned the online retailer, Zappos. In an exciting and controversial move, Zappos recently did away with all job boards and job postings. Rather, Zappos encourages interested candidates to connect directly with employees to learn about the teams and hear first hand what it's like to work at Zappos. While Zappos already enjoyed significant brand recognition, allowing them to pull something like this off, their plan to get the whole company involved in talent acquisition makes for some stellar, genuine, and unique candidate experience.
