The 2017 World’s Greatest Sourcer competition is a wrap, which means it’s time to announce the winners of this year’s competition. With more than 700 participants in this year’s competition, it all came down to the wire with the fourth and final challenge proving decisive.

Without further ado, congratulations to Patrick Moran and Shawn Vyas for finishing first and second, respectively, in the 2017 World’s Greatest Sourcer competition!

Patrick Moran, a talent sourcing manager at BAE Systems, also won the 2016 World’s Greatest Sourcer competition last year takes home the grand prize of $2,500 along with the right to call himself the World’s Greatest Sourcer for the second year running.

We asked Moran about the differences between this year’s competition and last year’s:

“This year’s WGS was so much tougher than last year. Each of the challenges required every tool in my sourcing toolkit. One answer could only be found using a specific Chrome extension while others took hours of brute-force hacking,” explained Moran. “All in all, It was an incredibly humbling experience that took a lot of effort and a little luck. Thank you to the Sourcing Institute and Entelo for the opportunity, I am honored and thankful.”

Joining Moran on the podium is Shawn Vyas, sourcing specialist at Best Buy, who will take home a cash prize of $500 and a scholarship to The Sourcing Institute. We asked Vyas about his takeaways from the experience. Much like Moran, the sheer difficulty of the challenges were top of mind.

“This was by far the most challenging competition that I’ve been involved in. Not only did it provide me with a chance to gauge my current sourcing skillset, but also to identify how much more there is to learn about strategic sourcing,” said Vyas. “There were multiple times when I felt confident that I was closing in on an answer only to hit a dead-end and have to start again with a whole new strategy. Tenacity and creativity were a big part of my success. I greatly look forward to the sourcing certification program and learning from the legend himself!”

Thank you to all of this year’s participants! If you're interested in joining the 2018 competition, add your name to the list, and we'll send you all the details as soon as they are confirmed.

Hope to see you then!
