In a post yesterday, LinkedIn explained some recent changes to their ever popular search feature. First, full names and profiles of anyone in your network are
now visible, granting you full access to 3rd-degree connections. Secondly, there is now a limit on the number of searches a standard user can perform in a given month. A post in LinkedIn's extensive Help Center details the changes in full:
"We've recently improved the LinkedIn people search experience, so that you can now view full names and profiles of anyone in your extended network (1st, 2nd, and 3rd degree), regardless of whether you're connected or have a Premium account.
This improved network visibility also includes a limit based on search usage. If you reach the commercial use limit, your activity on LinkedIn indicates that you're likely using LinkedIn for commercial use, like hiring or prospecting. This limit is calculated based on your search activity since the first of the calendar month."

The increased profile information you can see from your 3rd degree connections is another area where you can really use LinkedIn to it's fullest potential. As I'm sure you know, referrals are the #1 source of hires, so be sure to pump your network as much as you can!
