Dept. of Labor Releases February Jobs Report

Despite a dip in year-over-year gains, analysts were thrilled to see projections for February surpassed, as the U.S. economy enjoyed the creation of approximately 175,000 new jobs. Temp agencies and the medical field in particular showed the most growth, adding 24,000 and 9,500 positions, respectively. H/T to ERE.net for the full skinny.

 

Society of Women Engineers Announces Web Conference

This week, SWE announced it's first Online Career Development Conference, "Take Charge of Your Career Development". For a field traditionally emphasizing male professionals, SWE's work may prove to be crucial in encouraging and developing more women to pursue successful engineering careers. Topics covered will include proactive approaches to career planning, negotiation compensation, and developing a personal brand.

 

iCims Releases eBook Delving in to the Mind of Job Seekers

The ATS giant, iCims, this week released an extensive eBook exploring the motivations, wants, and expectations of job seekers. iCims' 'hire expectations institute' resource offers the following introduction:

In order to refine these strategies to attract top talent, employers must first understand the motivations of job seekers, how they use technology for their job searches, and what factors influence them to apply for positions. To that end, iCIMS conducted extensive research including an audit of more than 60,000 jobs posted in 2013 and surveyed more than 700 job seekers to help employers better understand today’s job seekers.
