HCI Webcast Takes on How to Fix Candidate Experience

If you've never tuned in to the material provided by the Human Capital Institute, you are severely missing out. In addition to their yearly conference, the fine folksHuman Capital Institute Candidate Experience at HCI regularly provide best-in-class webinars, podcasts, and deep research. This morning, HCI paired with Ivan Casanova and the delightfully blunt Matt Charney for a webcast digging in to the issue of candidate experience and what recruiters can do to make your company's hiring process as smooth as possible. Didn't get a chance to tune in to the webinar? You're in luck, because many attendees took to Twitter to provide commentary and key takeaways. Have a look at the most insightful nuggets below!

Sarah's reminder of recruiting as a two way street is incredibly important to bear in mind as you shape your application process. If your process is clunky, not optimized for mobile, or too lengthy, you will quickly lose the interest of your candidates before they even get a chance to show you what they've got. How many candidates are you losing? Glad you asked.

Well over half of candidates surveyed by HCI report losing interest in a lengthly application process. Think of all that untapped talent you're scaring away!

So how do you create a process which talent is happy to complete?

According to Kelly Blokdijk, (one of our favorite contributors on RecruitingBlogs.com), this is as much a branding opportunity as it is a hiring funnel optimization opportunity. Delineating the type of talent you want to apply and catering to their conception of what makes a reasonable application process is the simplest way to ensure their progression through the cycle.

The importance of mobile optimization is impossible to overstate. At the very least, your careers page ought to look sleek and polished on all devices, and if you want to open the top of the funnel, make it easy for candidates to upload a resume under the appropriate open position. The shift from desktop browsing to mobile browsing is increasing speed constantly, and as web savvy recruiters, you must adapt or miss out on top talent.

Lastly, take a moment to appreciate that you can no longer afford to ignore data. As co-presenter Ivan pointed out, recruiters must stop looking at exporting data and hammering on it until it says something actionable as a chore, and realize it's crucial role in ironing out hiring processes and making you better at your job.

Huge thanks to the Human Capital Institute, Matt Charney, and Ivan Casanova for an intriguing and data-filled webcast!
