5 Must Join LinkedIn Recruitment Groups

Typically, candidates and recruiters alike hop on LinkedIn with the intent of networking and connecting with Screen_Shot_2014-06-26_at_1.37.42_PMothers in their industry. In the past several months, however, LinkedIn has made moves to encourage more dicussion and content sharing. Just have a look at LinkedIn Pulse or the blogging tool that can be utilized by any user, and you'll see what I mean. And the best part? It's working!

Recruiters spend a great deal of time on LinkedIn, much of it sourcing. But most talent acquisition pros are missing out on a great arena to share ideas, articles, and commentary with other recruiters. There are dozens of recruitment-oriented LinkedIn groups, and I've compiled a few which boast the most activity and valuable discussion.

The Undercover Recruiter

You're probably already familair with their blog, and Undercover Recruiter's LinkedIn page can be just as valuable. Boasting over 18,000 members, the discussion here is always full of recruiters looking to network, posting articles, and posing questions to the community. Mostly content oriented, Undercover Recruiter is occasionally provocative (The Truth About Agency Recruiting, Is Cold Calling Dead?), and is always asking and tackling the questions at the top of recruiter's minds.

The Recruiter Network

Managed by the ever-prolific and insightful folks at Recruiter.com, this group is massive, clocking in at over 500,000 members. What I love about this group is that it really stresses discussion over content sharing. Typically, one recruiter will ask a difficult question about something they're struggling with, and the community will chime in with their experiences. The current top discussion surrounds the most important attributes of a qualified candidate, which is fun to pick for yourself as well as see which areas other recruiters find important.

(I'd go with 1, 6, and 10, in no particular order. Thoughts?)

Black Belt Sourcing and Recruiting

Black Belt, too, is a great source for articles and daily discussion, although it's intended as a much more technical group. As their about paragraph explains:

Please focus on discussing and sharing advanced online candidate sourcing and recruiting techniques and strategies, including Boolean search, talent mining, semantic search, and leveraging all forms of human capital data (resumes, social media profiles, blogs, etc.)

There are dozens of areas to pass standard recruitment practices and guides, but in-depth, technical discussion is rare. That's why Black Belt, both on their own side and on LinkedIn, is so valuable.

NorthWest Recruiters Association

Although it's a closed group, getting in here is extremely valuable to any recruiter. The mission of the NWRA is to educate and connect recruiters, so LinkedIn is a natural channel for them to operate. More from their About Us:

The Northwest Recruiters Association is a non-profit organization established to serve those in the recruiting profession as a forum for education, networking and information dissemination in a non-competitive environment. We strive to offer ways to develop members' recruiting skills and knowledge in order for them to promote professionalism among the recruiting industry, and the workplace community as a whole.

HR & Talent Management Executive

This groups is massive (250,000+), and more importantly, is strict about posting (every post is moderated, and absolutely NO job posts are allowed). Having a pair of eyes on every post before publication ensures a certain standard of quality, and you don't have to worry about noise or span. Again, you must request admission, but once you're in, your LinkedIn feed will stand to be a great deal more educational.
