Key Takeaways from SuccessConnect 2014 HR Conference

September 12, 2014 at 10:47 AM by Rob Stevenson

This week, SuccessFactors hosted their hotly anticipated HR conference, Success Connect 2014. Set in a SuccessConnect 2014 Key Takeawayssunny Las Vegas and featuring a host of accomplished Keynote speakers, #SConnect appears to have been a wild success full of illuminating insight.

Couldn't make it to Vegas for the conference? SuccessFactors was thinking about you, as they made a strong and thoughtful move in broadcasting much of the conference live on their website. It's a bit late for that now, but luckily, I've got you covered! I've combed through the thousands of tweets from the conference to pull out the most interesting and insightful commentary.

I for one am sorely disappointed on missing out on this presentation, delivered by one Edward Cone-Senior Analyst of Economics at Oxford. Here, he presents some data asserting a point I've previously made based on nothing but gut feeling and rhetoric. Think I might be on to something!

This one reminds me of a favorite hiring quote from former Chrysler CEO Leo Lacocca, "I hire people brighter than me and then I get out of their way". When you're building a team, you want people who can take initiative and surge ahead with projects on their own. Especially when hiring from within, look for the self-starters who aren't afraid to take the baton.

As if you needed another reason to revisit your mobile application process, careers page, or general recruiting strategy. We all know the prevalence of mobile use, but 80% is a staggering figure.

This sort of content poster is popping up at many conferences, and personally, I love it. A great way to get a high-level view of the trends and themes of the conference and it's commentary on the state of HR across the board.

SuccessFactors took SuccessConnect as an opportunity to release the findings of their extensive Future of Work survey. Covering topics such as workforce development, the role of millenials, and the skills gap, this research, conducted by Oxford Economics, is a must read for any HR Pro.
