Rapportive Lives! New Chrome Extension Resurrects Research Tool

For the past few years, no Recruiter's toolbelt was full without Rapportive. A lightweight gmail add-on, Screen_Shot_2014-08-01_at_11.07.29_AMRapportive would consider the email of your recipient and provide you links to their social profiles, personal websites, and display a personal avatar. When you needed to do a quick refresher or a bit of research on a contact, Rapportive was there for you.

Rapportive was bought by LinkedIn in early 2012, and was used in part to launch a now defunct tool called Intro. Rapportive lived on as we knew and loved it for a time, despite no longer updating profiles. As of July 31, key features of Rapportive, including Raplets, Notes, and the contextual gadget for Google apps (the true source of it's utility) have been laid to rest. Further, LinkedIn appears only to provide you with the contact's LinkedIn profile, leaving out the myriad other social sites.

However, it appears that LinkedIn didn't deprecate the Rapportive API, rather they merely changed the front-end code. Thus, the Rapportive API can still be called and used for it's original purpose, with it's original data. The result? Rapportive has been resurrected in the form of Rapporto, another Chrome extension.

It's unclear how long Rapporto will remain functional, as LinkedIn is unlikely to allow a clone of the tool they spent $15M on run wild. If Rapporto doesn't work out, there are other options on the market as well, such as Vibe App.
